Ducks vs Avalanche prediction

The Colorado Avalanche face the Los Angeles Kings with both teams looking to build on strong seasons. The Avalanche finished last season with the third-best record in the Central Division, but after losing in the First Round, they look to prove they can compete for the Cup. The Kings also had a First Round exit, and after adding multiple veterans to the lineup, they look to take that next step forward as well. Who will win this game? Colorado hopes well-rounded roster gets them over the hump

The Avalanche have plenty of optimism heading into the new season, with their offense building off a year where they averaged 3.33 goals per game and added a few depth skaters in the process. Nathan MacKinnon leads the group after scoring 32 goals and 84 assists last season, but the rest of the offense looks to be great as well. Artturi Lehkonen, Valeri Nichushkin, and Martin Necas are coming off seasons where they combined for 59 goals and 48 assists, while defenseman Cale Makar added 30 goals and 62 assists to win the Norris Trophy.

The offense was stellar while the defense also stepped up, allowing only 2.82 goals per game. Cale Makar and Devon Toews anchored the top pair, and the unit looks to only improve with the Brent Burns addition, as the long-time defenseman still has enough in the tank to round out the unit. Additionally, goaltender MacKenzie Blackwood added stability in the net with a .913 save percentage and a 2.33 goals-against average on 966 shots with 12.7 goals saved above average.

Kings look for defense to pick up where it left off

The Kings are a great team that looks to take a step forward with a strong offense that scored 3.04 goals per game. Adrian Kempe and Anze Kopitar scored 56 goals and 84 assists last season, but the rest offense is also there. Kevin Fiala and Quinton Byfield have combined for 58 goals and 84 assists, while Brandt Clarke and Michael Anderson added 11 goals and 46 assists to open up the offense.

The offense was great but the defense looks to follow up a remarkable season after allowing only 2.48 goals per game. Michael Anderson and Drew Doughty are leading the top two pairings, and the hope is veteran additions Brian Dumoulin and Cody Ceci look to take the unit to the next level. Additionally, goaltender Darcy Kuemper looks to build off a great season as he had a .921 save percentage and a 2.02 goals-against average on 1266 shots with 26.8 goals saved above average.

Avalanche vs Kings Pick

Money Line Pick for Avalanche vs. Kings

  • Avalanche (-110) (4 units)

This will be a great game between two of the best teams in the NHL. The Kings look to step up on their home ice but the Avalanche look to take over this one on the road with a great team on both ends of the ice. The Avalanche should pile on the goals with Nathan MacKinnon, Martin Necas, and the rest of the forward unit carrying the puck into the offensive zone while creating open shots with quick passes. The Avalanche, who allowed only 2.82 goals per game last season, should limit the Kings' offense with Cale Makar, Devon Toews, and the rest of the defensive unit creating turnovers in the defensive zone while limiting shots on the net, allowing goaltender MacKenzie Blackwood to make plenty of big saves. The Avalanche should win the game with a strong performance on the road.

Take the Avalanche money line as road Favorites.

Over/Under Pick For Avalanche vs Kings

  • Over 5.5 (5 Units)

The Avalanche and Kings are expected to have great offenses this season, and this game looks to be a high-scoring one from the first period. The Kings, who averaged 3.04 goals per game last season, should constantly find the back of the net with Anze Kopitar, Adrian Kempe, and the rest of the forward unit carrying the puck into the offensive zone while creating open shots with quick passes. The Avalanche, who averaged 3.33 goals per game last season, should run up the score with Nathan MacKinnon, Martin Necas, Valeri Nichushkin, and the rest of the forward unit crashing the net on the rush while creating open shots with effective puck movement, while Cale Makar picks apart the Wild defense from the point. The Over should cover in a high-scoring game controlled by both offenses.

Take the Over on 5.5 goals.

The Avalanche face the Kings with both teams looking to start the season strong.
