Boston Bruins vs Los Angeles Kings Picks, Prediction, Odds, and Line Movement for Saturday October 17 2026

St. Louis Blues vs. Montreal Canadiens prediction.
Boston goes into Los Angeles at 6-2-0, an impressive record supported by a deep forward group and a productive power play. The Kings are still winless at 0-3-2 and badly need to convert an improved performance into two points. The market nevertheless makes Los Angeles a moderate home favorite, partly because Boston is playing on consecutive nights after a 4-2 victory in Anaheim. That scheduling disadvantage is real, but the Bruins' current lineup and the Kings' problems justify taking a close look at the visiting underdog price.
Boston's Friday win involved a significant power-play contribution and an excellent effort from Michael DiPietro, who made 26 saves. The downside is that the Bruins had to expend energy to finish off Anaheim, while Los Angeles has had more time to prepare. Boston must avoid turning this game into an open-ice chase in which tired skaters defend repeated Kings rushes. The visitors should prefer a steadier first period, trusting their veteran forwards to create advantages once they settle into the matchup.

Boston Bruins Betting Analysis

David Pastrnak remains Boston's marquee finisher and is projected alongside Morgan Geekie and Pavel Zacha, although Zacha's status is uncertain after leaving Friday's game following a hit. JJ Peterka, Fraser Minten and Marat Khusnutdinov supply another scoring unit, with Casey Mittelstadt, Elias Lindholm and James Hagens providing depth. The Bruins' roster has more ways to generate pressure than simply giving Pastrnak the puck and waiting for a shot. That distribution matters when the first-line center's availability is not entirely settled.
The Bruins are healthy on defense, where Charlie McAvoy, Hampus Lindholm and Nikita Zadorov help control difficult shifts. Jeremy Swayman is expected to start after DiPietro handled the Anaheim game, though he is not confirmed in the current tracker. Boston's ability to rotate to Swayman on the second night reduces one customary back-to-back penalty. The Bruins still must stay disciplined on changes and keep their defensemen from overcommitting, but they are not necessarily exposing a tired goaltender to a faster opponent.

Los Angeles Kings Betting Analysis

Los Angeles has talented forwards in Artemi Panarin, Adrian Kempe, Quinton Byfield and Alex Laferriere. The Kings can look dangerous when Panarin finds time to thread a pass across the slot or Kempe attacks with speed. Drew Doughty and Brandt Clarke lead the defense's offensive involvement. The record is worse than the talent level, which is one reason home favoritism is understandable. Boston cannot assume the Kings will continue losing simply because the first five games have been disappointing.
The issue is the amount of personnel uncertainty surrounding Los Angeles. Kevin Fiala is out after leg surgery, Mats Zuccarello remains unavailable and Alex Turcotte is also absent. The Kings are expected to use 11 forwards and seven defensemen. Anton Forsberg is considered likely in goal, rather than officially confirmed, and his early sample consists of a single overtime loss. That makes it difficult to assign the Kings a reliable current-form advantage in net. Their offense needs quicker puck support to avoid depending solely on one exceptional play from Panarin.

Bruins vs Kings Matchup and Odds

Boston has to prevent the Kings' skill players from controlling the half walls, especially after the Bruins spent energy in Anaheim. The reward for disciplined play is that Los Angeles does not currently possess its complete forward rotation. If Pastrnak's line forces the Kings to defend while tired, Boston can capitalize on mistakes near the net. Los Angeles should counter by attacking Boston's depth pairings rather than always feeding Panarin into an obvious primary matchup against McAvoy.
The earlier market listed Boston around +122 and Los Angeles -135. Later published prices have the Bruins between +113 and +115, with the Kings around -136 to -143. The underdog return has shrunk, but the mismatch between the records remains striking. Boston at +115 needs a win rate slightly above 46 percent to justify the wager. Given the Bruins' 6-2 start, their goal-scoring depth and Los Angeles's missing forwards, the price is still reasonable if Swayman's expected start materializes.
The posted total has been around 5.5 to six goals, suggesting that bookmakers expect a contest where every mistake matters. Boston's best scenario is not a track meet. Its defensemen can reduce the Kings' ability to move the puck through the middle, while the visitors' special teams create scoring opportunities even if five-on-five play is even. The second-night travel issue reduces confidence and should be acknowledged, but it is already part of the current price rather than a reason to overlook a capable underdog entirely.

Best Bet

Best Bet: Boston Bruins moneyline at +115 or better. Los Angeles has the rest advantage and enough elite talent to win, but its injuries and winless start do not justify treating it as a decisive favorite. Boston can turn to Swayman after DiPietro played Friday, and the Bruins have multiple scoring lines capable of testing Forsberg. The plus-money cushion is necessary compensation for the back-to-back and Zacha uncertainty. Prediction: Boston Bruins 3, Los Angeles Kings 2.
