Cardinals vs. Rams Prediction

Monday night's Buffalo Bills vs Los Angeles Rams picks close NFL Week 5 with one of the highest-profile matchups on the schedule. Buffalo enters 3-1 after a 29-26 home loss to New England, while Los Angeles is 2-2 after rallying past Philadelphia 24-20. The Rams are favored by 3.5 points at SoFi Stadium, and the total is 54.5.

The market has moved toward Los Angeles since the opener. The Rams opened around -2.5 with a total of 53.5, then moved through the key number of three to -3.5 while the total climbed a full point. That movement reflects respect for Matthew Stafford and one of the league's most productive passing offenses, but the current spread also creates value on Buffalo by putting the hook above a field goal.

Buffalo Bills vs Los Angeles Rams Preview

Buffalo's offense remains one of the most difficult units in the league to defend because Josh Allen can beat opponents in multiple ways. Allen has thrown for 1,039 yards through four games and has accounted for 13 total touchdowns, including seven rushing scores. His mobility changes the math near the goal line and gives Buffalo a way to salvage plays even when protection breaks down.

The Bills also rank among the league's better rushing teams, averaging 139 yards per game. James Cook gives Buffalo enough traditional rushing efficiency that defenses cannot simply treat Allen as the only ground threat. That balance becomes especially important against a Rams defense capable of creating pressure when opponents become one-dimensional.

Buffalo's largest concern is its injury report. Wide receiver Josh Palmer and defensive tackle Ed Oliver have been ruled out. DJ Moore is questionable with a shoulder injury, while Dee Alford and Landon Jackson also carry questionable designations. Palmer's absence removes one receiving option from Allen, while Oliver's absence matters against a Rams offense that can run efficiently enough to keep Buffalo from attacking Stafford on every passing down.

Los Angeles enters with a different injury profile. Quentin Lake is questionable, but most of the Rams' major offensive pieces are available. Davante Adams practiced fully, and Matthew Stafford enters a matchup that should give him opportunities to attack a Buffalo defense allowing 26.8 points per game.

The Rams rank second in the league in passing offense at more than 290 yards per game. Stafford has thrown for 1,189 yards through four games, and Los Angeles can stretch Buffalo horizontally and vertically with Adams, Puka Nacua and its tight ends. That passing volume is the clearest reason the total sits above 54 points.

Matchup Breakdown

The first key matchup is Buffalo's offensive line against the Rams' front. The Bills want to keep Allen out of repeated third-and-long situations, where Los Angeles can use disguise and pressure to force the ball out quickly. Buffalo can prevent that by running Cook efficiently and using Allen on designed movement concepts that slow the rush.

The Rams face a similar challenge in reverse. Stafford is at his best when the offense stays on schedule and allows Sean McVay to use play action, motion and layered route combinations. Buffalo is without Oliver, which can make it harder to disrupt the Rams from the interior. If Los Angeles consistently gains four or five yards on first down, Stafford should have favorable opportunities against Buffalo's secondary.

Turnovers are the most important source of volatility. The Rams have carried a poor turnover margin through the opening month, while Buffalo's Week 4 loss ended with a late Allen interception. Both offenses are good enough to score quickly, but one short field could be the difference between a one-score finish and a game that gets away from the underdog.

The spread makes the side more attractive than the straight-up winner. Los Angeles is the more likely team to win at home, but moving from -2.5 to -3.5 changes the betting equation. Buffalo can lose by a field goal and still cash. In a matchup featuring two veteran quarterbacks and a total of 54.5, that extra half-point has real value.

The total is high but justified. Buffalo has the rushing and quarterback profile to reach the high 20s even without Palmer, while the Rams have one of the league's strongest passing attacks against a Bills defense that just allowed New England to produce 405 total yards and score 29 points.

First-down efficiency will determine whether the game becomes a shootout or settles into longer possessions. If both teams consistently reach second-and-five instead of second-and-nine, the full playbook remains available and the defenses will have difficulty forcing punts. That scenario strongly favors scoring.

Game Thesis: Los Angeles has the cleaner passing matchup and deserves to be favored, but Buffalo getting more than a field goal is the better betting position. The Bills have enough offensive balance to remain within one possession, while both quarterbacks have favorable paths to producing enough scoring for the total to stay live deep into the fourth quarter.

Bills vs Rams Best Bet - Spread: Buffalo +3.5

Buffalo +3.5 is the Best Bet because the number now protects a field-goal loss. That is important in a matchup where the Rams deserve to be favored but do not own a large enough overall edge to justify asking Buffalo to lose by four or more.

Allen remains the biggest reason to take the points. Even when the Bills' offense is not operating cleanly, his ability to extend plays and score with his legs keeps Buffalo alive in games that appear to be tilting toward the opponent. The Rams can control stretches with Stafford, but Allen gives the Bills an equalizer in high-leverage situations.

The loss of Palmer reduces Buffalo's receiving depth, but Keon Coleman is available and Cook gives the offense another way to create efficient touches. Buffalo does not need to win the passing-yardage battle to cover. It needs to stay within one possession and avoid giving the Rams repeated short fields.

The biggest risk is Buffalo's defense. Without Oliver, the Bills could struggle to pressure Stafford from the interior, and Los Angeles has enough receiving talent to create long scoring drives. If the Rams consistently finish those drives with touchdowns, Buffalo may be forced into a pure shootout.

At +3.5, however, the number compensates for that risk better than the earlier +2.5 or +3 prices did.

Bills vs Rams Total Pick: Over 54.5

Over 54.5 is the secondary position. The number is high, but both offenses rank among the league's more productive units and each defense has shown vulnerabilities that the opposing quarterback can attack.

Buffalo can score through Allen, Cook and the quarterback run game. Los Angeles can answer with Stafford and one of the NFL's most productive passing attacks. Neither offense needs an unusual defensive touchdown or special-teams score to reach the high 20s.

The Over is strongest at 54.5. A move to 56 or higher would reduce the value because one stalled red-zone possession could become decisive.

Prediction: Los Angeles Rams 30, Buffalo Bills 28
