The Clips shot 48 percent from the field, but were held to 5-for-23 shooting (22%) from beyond the arc. While efficient in the paint (60 points), they lost their legs down the stretch, scoring just 20 total fourth-quarter points.
Kawhi Leonard is LA's top scoring option. The San Diego State product is averaging 28.0 points, with 6.4 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game. A couple of other Clippers to watch against the Timberwolves are G Bennedict Mathurin (18.4 PPG and 5.5 RPG) and F John Collins (13.8 PPG and 5.2 RPG). Los Angeles scores 112.1 points per game (26th) on 47.9 percent shooting (6th), while its opponents average 112.6 points (9th) on 46.7 percent shooting (12th).
The Clippers went 50-32 last season, finishing 5th in the West. They went on an 18-3 run before the playoffs, but couldn't sustain their momentum, losing in the first round. Beal was among the team's biggest offseason additions, but the 32-year-old will be out for the remainder of the season after undergoing hip surgery earlier this week. LA also traded for Collins and signed G Chris Paul and C Brook Lopez to bolster their depth around Leonard, but let go of CP3 and traded James Harden. The result is a team with talent, but limited in upside.

The Clippers lost a couple of close games to the Magic and Lakers, but played well and won their previous two, taking down good Denver and Houston teams. They also beat Minnesota by 19 just a few games prior, holding the T-Wolves under 100 points. They have covered the spread in five of their last six games. I believe they'll sustain their success ATS on Thursday against a Minny squad that's been boosted by the fourth-easiest strength of schedule, per Dunks and Threes. The Timberwolves failed to cover in their last three games as betting favorites, as well. Their recent schedule has been especially mediocre, having faced Portland (twice), Atlanta, and Dallas in four of their last five games. They were crushed 135-108 by Philadelphia in the other game.
Mathurin has exploded since arriving in Inglewood, scoring 38 against the Nuggets, 26 against the Lakers, and 21 against the Magic. Indiana is attempting to tank for a lottery pick, but giving him away wasn't a strong move. He will flourish alongside Leonard, giving Los Angeles a secondary scoring option who will put pressure on the T-Wolves' defense. I'll take the points with LA on Thursday!
