Philadelphia Wraps up Road Trip

The Philadelphia 76ers have spent more than a week on the West Coast, and will finally conclude their long trip Monday night in Portland. They played two games in Los Angeles against the Clippers and Lakers, while also making stops in Phoenix and Golden State. They have gone 3-1 on their trip, with the lone loss coming against the Lakers. Philly is currently 6th in the East, just a half game behind the Raptors in 5th.

In their last game, the 76ers were led by Joel Embiid with 33 points and nine rebounds. Embiid has slowly been returning to his old form for Philly, as the big man is averaging 26.6 PPG and 7.5 RPG over 31 games played. Embiid has scored 30 or more in four of his last five games, including a 40-point performance against the Pelicans. Tyrese Maxey still leads the team in scoring with 28.8 PPG while dishing out 6.9 APG. Philly will be without Paul George for quite some time, as he was suspended 25 games for violating the league's drug policy.

VJ Edgecomb has been playing so well that the team was willing to trade away Jared McCain. Edgecombe is getting 15.0 PPG and 5.4 RPG. The 76ers are ranked 11th in offensive efficiency and 14th in defensive efficiency according to dunksandthrees.com. Philly ranked 15th in the league in possessions per game.

Trail Blazers Fly Under the Radar

The Portland Trail Blazers are not regularly on national television, and do not have many big names on their roster. This has allowed them to quietly build a playoff worthy roster, but Portland will have to keep winning games to get there. They are currently 9th in the West, with a four game cushion over the Grizzlies who sit back in 11th. In their last game, Portland got 29 points from Jerami Grant in their win over Memphis.

Grant has been in and out of the starting lineup this season, as he has started in 18 of his 37 games so far this year. He started against the Grizzlies and will get heavy minutes in this game whether he starts or not. Grant is getting 19.1 PPG with 3.5 RPG. Deni Avdija is the least-known All-Star in the league, but the 25-year old is putting up sensational numbers with 25.5 PPG, 7.2 RPG and 6.7 APG. Avdija is a game time decision here with a lingering back injury that kept him out of the Memphis game.

Shaedon Sharpe is also a game time decision with a calf injury, so Portland could be without another 21.4 PPG from their lineup. Jrue Holiday will be available with his 14.9 PPG. Portland is ranked 20th in offensive efficiency and 18th in defensive efficiency. The Blazers play faster than the Sixers, ranking 5th in the league in pace of play.

76ers vs. Trail Blazers Picks and Predictions

Spread pick for 76ers vs. Trail Blazers

  • 76ers to cover (5 units)

This is Philly's last game of their road trip, but there is not enough here to back these Blazers at home. Portland is decimated with injuries, in their last game they started Sidy Cissoko and Toumani Camara while playing them heavy minutes. This is not the type of lineup that can hang with Philly, especially the way Embiid has been playing lately. Embiid has scored 30 or more in four of his last five games, and will tear up this Portland front line easily. With a chance that both Avdija and Sharpe are out, there is not enough scoring to back the Blazers.

Take the 76ers to cover.

Over/Under Pick for 76ers vs. Trail Blazers

  • Under (4 units)

Portland typically plays fast, but that would be a bad strategy here against the 76ers. The Blazers will need to slow this game down without their top two scorers, and will see more possessions with shots coming from Holiday and Clingan. Portland will want to keep this game slow to keep it in striking distance, while Philly naturally plays at a slow pace as they continue to get Embiid more and more involved. The 76ers could be fatigued here from their long road trip, so there is reasons why both teams will be looking to play slow.

Take the under.
