Houston Form & Recent Results

Houston heads into this matchup playing some of its best baseball in a while, riding a three-game winning streak and taking four of its last five games overall heading into Friday. A big chunk of that momentum came from a series sweep of the Angels in Anaheim, where the Astros consistently put pressure on the scoreboard, and they also picked up a win against the White Sox in Chicago to round out the stretch. Put simply, Houston has been stringing together solid performances on both sides of the ball lately, and the results have followed.

One of the clearest examples of that run was Wednesday’s 7–4 road win over the Angels. Catcher Yandy Díaz was a major spark, turning in a huge day at the plate by going 4-for-5 with a mix of base hits that included a home run and two runs batted in. On the mound, starter Hayden Wesneski gave Houston a workable outing, lasting 5 2⁄3 innings while giving up seven hits and three earned runs; he also walked two and struck out four. Offensively, the Astros did plenty of damage as a team, finishing with 11 hits, two home runs, and 18 total bases. Over the full season, Yordan Álvarez has been the centerpiece of the lineup, leading the team with 35 home runs, 80 RBI, and a .321 batting average, while first baseman Christian Walker has added plenty of pop as well with 21 homers of his own. Recently, Houston has been averaging 4.6 runs per game over its last five games, and they’ll try to carry that steady scoring into Saturday’s middle game against the Rangers.

Texas Form & Recent Results

Texas heads into this matchup in a bit of a drought, riding a two-game losing streak and having dropped three of their last five games overall prior to Friday. Two of those setbacks came against the Rays in St. Petersburg, and the other was a home loss to the Mariners, so it hasn’t been the easiest stretch of the schedule. On Thursday in Tampa Bay, the Rangers fell 3–2 in a tight, low-scoring game, but left fielder Wyatt Langford still managed to put together a solid line at the plate. He finished 1-for-4 with a double, worked a walk, and drove in a run, doing his part to keep Texas within striking distance even though they ultimately came up short.

Offensively, the Rangers have gotten much of their power production from first baseman Jake Burger and designated hitter Joc Pederson, who are tied for the team lead with 19 home runs apiece. Langford and shortstop Ezequiel Duran sit just behind them, each with 12 homers on the season, giving Texas a few different threats capable of changing a game with one swing. Burger has also been the club’s most productive run producer, leading the team with 66 RBIs, while third baseman Josh Jung has been the steadiest pure hitter, pacing the Rangers with a .294 batting average. On the pitching and defense side, Texas has actually held opponents in check recently, allowing just 3.2 runs per game over their last five , and they’ll need that same kind of sharpness on Saturday if they want to slow down a red-hot Astros lineup.

Key Stats

  • Texas’ Josh Jung this season: 9 HRs, 35 RBI, .294 AVG
  • Houston’s Yordan Alvarez this season: 35 HRs, 80 RBI, .321 AVG

Texas vs. Houston Picks and Prediction

The Astros have really flipped the script lately, shaking off a rough stretch and playing with a lot of energy, while the Rangers have been heading in the opposite direction and struggling to stop the slide. Houston will try to keep that good run going Saturday, sending Ronel Blanco to the mound. He’s still looking for his first win, sitting at 0–1 with an 8.10 ERA so far. Texas, meanwhile, will try to steady things behind Jacob deGrom, who has put together a 7–6 record with a 3.67 ERA this season. Final Score Prediction, Houston Astros win 4-2.
