Astros lose momentum
Houston had some momentum coming into their home series with the Yankees after taking two of three from the Guardians on the road. But they were crushed on Friday night as Lance McCullers Jr. allowed seven runs (five earned), including two home runs. His bullpen didn't help as Colton Gordon came in during the sixth inning and allowed five runs in two innings, also giving up two homers. The only bright spots were C Yainer Diaz blasting his second homer with two RBs and Braden Shewmake, hitting his first homer for the Astros, after coming over from the Yankees last week in a minor deal.
Right-hander Spencer Arrighetti is set to take the mound for the Astros. He's been very good this season, going 2-0 with a 2.45 ERA with 13 strikeouts. However, he has walked eight batters in 11 innings, owning a poor 1.45 WHIP. Last season, he started just seven games due to injuries and went 1-5 with a 5.35 ERA. Over his three-year career, he's 10-18 with a 4.56 ERA. He faced the Yankees just once, in 2024, allowing five runs and three homers in five innings.
