Astros Looking to Earn Series Win
Houston won for the fourth time in six games as they thrashed Cincinnati in the opening game of the set Friday night. The Astros entered Saturday 16-23 on the year and stood fourth in the AL West, 4.5 games behind the Athletics for the top spot. On Friday night, Houston banged out 13 hits as Yordan Alvarez (run, two RBI) and Brice Matthews (two runs) each recording two. Christian Vazquez (his third), Alvarez (his 13th), Zach Cole (his second) and Zach Dezenzo (his first) each went deep in the win. Mike Burrows (2-4) threw seven scoreless innings, allowing three hits with one walk and six strikeouts, to earn the win.
Houston has yet to officially name a starter but the expectation is that Kai-Wen Teng gets the call for his 15th appearance, second start, of the year in this contest. He is 1-2 with a 2.35 ERA, a 0.957 WHIP, seven walks and 22 strikeouts over 23 innings of work. Teng didnโt factor in the decision in his last outing, which came in relief against the Dodgers on the road Monday. He threw two scoreless innings, allowing one hit with no walks and two strikeouts in an 8-3 Astros defeat. In his last three appearances, one start, Teng is 0-1 with a 2.84 ERA, a 1.11 WHIP, one walk and six strikeouts over 6.1 innings of work. Teng, in his 27th career major league appearance, ninth start, pitches against the Reds for the first time here. As a result, this marks his first career outing at the Great American Ball Park.

In his last three starts, Abbott is 1-0 with a 4.02 ERA, a 1.47 WHIP, eight walks and 13 strikeouts over 15.2 innings of work. Astros vs. Reds Pick
Moneyline Pick for Astros vs. Reds
- Astros (4 units)
Just 10 days ago, the Reds were flying high atop the NL Central. instead, they entered Saturday with eight straight losses, including three straight walk-off defeats at Wrigley, and were smashed in the opener of this set. Cincinnati is reeling and itโs tough to put faith in a team that has beaten themselves repeatedly of late. Houston has been better of late after a slow start, even with all their injury issues. The Astros have a little momentum and with the Reds having none, thereโs little reason to trust them here, even at home. Take Houston on getaway day here.
Over/Under Pick for Astros vs. Reds
- Over (4 units)
Houston entered Saturday having seen the over post a 26-12-1 mark in their 39 games on the year. The Astros are 7th by averaging five runs per game and that number climbs to 5.15 runs per game on the road. Houston has an average total of 10.69 runs per game on the year, though that jumps to 10.75 runs a night as the visiting team. Cincinnati has gone over the total in 24 of their 39 games, with one push, entering Saturday. The Reds put up an average of four runs per game (24th) on the year while allowing an average of 5.03 runs per contest. That gives an average total of 9.03 runs per contest entering Monday. That number jumps to 4.11 runs per contest at home and their average total climbs to 9.48 runs per game. With favorable conditions at the Great American Ball Park, look for this one to wind up over the number.
