Tigers Trying to Stop Four-Game Losing Streak

Detroit is coming off a 4-3 loss to Kansas City and has dropped four straight games. The Tigers were swept by Boston before arriving in Kansas City and have scored only 10 total runs during the losing streak. Despite the recent losses, Detroit has remained competitive in several close games because of steady pitching.

The Tigers are hitting .244 with a .326 on-base percentage and .393 slugging percentage, producing 168 runs on 316 hits. Riley Greene leads the lineup with a .309 batting average, .404 OBP, and 43 hits, while Dillon Dingler has added six home runs and 26 RBI. Kerry Carpenter also has six home runs, and Kevin McGonigle owns a .293 average with 16 RBI. Gleyber Torres continues to provide production near the top of the order with a .389 OBP. Detroit has totaled 36 home runs and 72 doubles through 39 games this season.

Pitching has been stronger than the offense for most of the season. Detroit enters with a 3.89 ERA and 1.32 WHIP while holding opponents to a .241 batting average. The Tigers have recorded 329 strikeouts and allowed only 32 home runs, one of the better totals in the American League. However, 137 walks have created added pressure in close games and contributed to several recent losses.

Royals Playing Better Baseball at Home

Kansas City opened this series with a 4-3 victory over Detroit after losing two of three games against Cleveland earlier in the week. The Royals are now 12-9 at home this season and have generally played more consistent baseball offensively at Kauffman Stadium.

Kansas City is hitting .241 with a .320 on-base percentage and .390 slugging percentage, producing 161 runs on 311 hits. Bobby Witt Jr. continues to lead the offense with a .299 batting average, .371 OBP, 46 hits, and 12 stolen bases. Carter Jensen has added six home runs and 17 RBI, while Maikel Garcia is batting .269 with 39 hits. Vinnie Pasquantino has struggled with a .190 batting average but still leads the team with 18 RBI. Kansas City has produced 39 home runs and continues to rely on contact hitting and baserunning to create offense.

Pitching has been inconsistent for the Royals throughout the season. Kansas City carries a 4.31 ERA and 1.37 WHIP while allowing a .238 opponent batting average. The Royals have recorded 329 strikeouts but also issued 169 walks, one of the higher totals in the American League. The inability to consistently limit baserunners has created difficult innings, especially against stronger offensive teams.

Injuries: Bailey Falter, 15-Day IL, Cole Ragans, 15-Day IL, James McArthur, 60-Day IL, Anthony Simonelli, 60-Day IL, Javier Vaz, 60-Day IL

Pitching Matchup

Detroit Tigers – Undecided

Detroit had not announced a starting pitcher at the time this preview was written.

Kansas City Royals – Noah Cameron

Cameron is 2-2 with a 5.40 ERA and 1.61 WHIP over 31.2 innings. The left-hander has allowed 40 hits with 28 strikeouts and 11 walks while giving up five home runs. Cameron allowed four earned runs over 5.1 innings against Oakland in his most recent outing.

Detroit Tigers vs Kansas City Royals Spread Pick

The Kansas City Royals have the advantage because of stronger recent form at home and Detroit’s current offensive struggles. The Tigers have scored three runs or fewer in three of the last four games, while Kansas City has consistently played better at Kauffman Stadium. The Royals are carrying momentum from the series opener, and Kansas City is in a favorable position to win at home.

Detroit Tigers vs Kansas City Royals Over/Under Pick

This game will cash under if Detroit’s pitching staff continues limiting power production and Kansas City struggles to capitalize with runners on base. The Tigers have generally pitched well despite the losing streak, and both offenses have been inconsistent recently. If the starters can avoid early damage, scoring opportunities may stay limited through most of the game.
