Purdue is Making strides
When you have lost eight straight games, you need to find the bright side. Purdue covered their last two games, losing at Michigan 21-16 on Nov. 1 as a 21-point underdog. They lost their last game to Ohio State 34-10, but were getting 28.5 points. They also lost a close game to Rutgers, 27-24 on Oct. 25, but unfortunately were the favorite.
The Boilermakers' top offensive player is Devin Mockobee, who recently underwent season-ending ankle surgery. He ends the season with 521 yards and four TDs, with a 4.2 yards per carry average. Those aren't bad numbers considering all defenses are geared to stop you. QB Ryan Browne is ocmpleting 60.7% of his passes for 1,898 yards with nine TDs and eight picks. He really struggled against an elite OSU defense, completing 10 of 19 for 76 yards with no TDs and a pick.
On defense, the Boilermakers have really struggled, allowing 402.8 yards per game (101st) and 241.3 passing yards (100th). They are also bad against the pass, allowing 241.3 yards per game (1005h). On offense, their passing game is adequate (220.1ypg), but the running game (136.3ypg) has been dismal.

Huskies shocked by Wisconsin
Wisconsin and Purdue have been the worst Big 10 teams this season so a loss to them was not expected. But scoring 10 points on the road, coming off a bye is embarrassing. That's what Washington produced last week at Madison, producing just 134 passing yards and 117 rushing yards against a team that amassed just 205 total yards. This was a costly loss for a then-No. 23-ranked team that is still going bowling, but had higher aspirations.
The defense wasn't the culprit last week as Ryan Walters had his team ready. Walter was the Purdue head coach last season and was fired last season after a 66-0 loss to Indiana. The Huskies were hampered by some injuries on the offensive side, with RB Jonah Coleman, WR Denzel Boston and two starting offensive linemen out. That would explain why QB Demond Williams Jr. was sacked four times and pressured 21 times by the Bagers.
Williams ranks fifth in the Big 10 with 205.1 passing yards per game and has nearly 500 yards rushing. Defensively, Washington is allowing 319 yards per game and just 109 rushing yards. On offense, they are averaging 160.8 rushing yards.
Key Injuries for Washington:
- RB Coleman (knee) is questionable. Coleman has 645 yards rushing and 13 TDs.
- WR Boston (knee) is questionable. Boston has 52 catches for 730 yards.
Spread Pick for Purdue vs. Washington
Purdue vs. Washington Prediction and Pick
- Purdue +16.5 (4 units)
Sometimes, you have to go with the team that has lost eight straight games, but covered two straight due to Washington's issues on the offensive line and the fact that they might not have their best receiver and running back. Williams can do so much and I know Walters wants this win badly. He should get it, but it might be up to his defense once again as the Huskies' offense is going to have issues with protection and they'll lack a weapon or two. Purdue has not been playing bad football in their last three games. It's a silver lining to a lost season, but we're just talking about covering the spread. If Washington plays as poorly as it did last week, we could be talking about their first conference win.
Total Pick for Purdue vs. Wahsington
- Under 51.5 (5 units)
This Purdue defense isn't going to set records, but they have played better in their last five games, allowing 25.6 points per game in that span. They've gone under in all five games and expect another one as they don't have enouigh weapons to score over 20 points, which they've done just once in the last five games. The rain also won't help matters and with Washington's offense struggling, they've also gone under in five of their last six games.
