Delaware vs Middle Tennessee Picks, Prediction, Odds, and Line Movement for Tuesday October 13 2026

Delaware visits Middle Tennessee on Tuesday night for a Conference USA game that should be decided by which offense can avoid giving away possessions. Both teams enter at 2-3, and neither has established the kind of consistent production that makes a favorite comfortable in a short-week setting. Delaware has the stronger recent program trajectory, but the Blue Hens are confronting an unusually consequential question at quarterback.

Middle Tennessee has been erratic as well, including a shutout loss at Kansas, but a return to Murfreesboro against a Delaware team missing offensive continuity creates a more manageable assignment. The spread is narrow enough to suggest little separates the sides, while the total gives bettors a more direct way to evaluate the matchup.

Best Available Odds

  • Spread: Delaware -1.5 / Middle Tennessee +1.5
  • Total: 47.5 points
  • Moneyline: Delaware approximately -120 / Middle Tennessee approximately +100

Delaware vs Middle Tennessee Preview

Delaware began its second FBS season with reason for optimism. It beat Merrimack, competed at Vanderbilt and defeated Coastal Carolina, but its last two games exposed how much the offense depends on Nick Minicucci. The quarterback suffered a knee injury during the loss at Virginia and missed the subsequent 30-14 defeat against Liberty. The Blue Hens used EJ Archield Jr., Braden Streeter and Tyler Bell against the Flames, and the lack of a settled starter has complicated play sequencing.

The problem extends beyond identifying who takes the first snap. Minicucci could challenge a defense horizontally and vertically while providing additional rushing production. Without that threat, Delaware has struggled to make opponents respect the run. Its rushing output sits below 100 yards per game, and the offense risks becoming a series of predictable passing downs when early carries fail. Three different quarterbacks can supply different skills, but none creates continuity automatically.

Middle Tennessee also has limitations. Roman Gagliano has protected the football well through the first five games, but his nine completions in 26 attempts against Kansas illustrated how quickly the offense can collapse when the protection and receiving game fail together. Cam'ron Lacy has been his principal perimeter option, while Antonio Martin Jr. supplies the primary rushing workload. The Blue Raiders should be more effective against Delaware than they were against Kansas, but a dependable run-first approach has not materialized either.

Matchup Breakdown

Middle Tennessee’s defensive vulnerability makes this a tricky game to handicap purely from season averages. Delaware can exploit the Blue Raiders in space if its quarterbacks identify coverage and avoid holding the ball. Yet generating a few explosive gains is not the same as stringing together touchdown drives. The Blue Hens' unsettled quarterback rotation is especially relevant near the goal line, when coverage tightens and missed assignments become costly.

Delaware's linebackers Blake Matthews and Collin Gallagher give the visitors a chance to keep the Blue Raiders behind the chains. If that tandem wins against the run, Gagliano will be asked to win with accuracy and ball placement rather than a high-volume explosive passing attack. Middle Tennessee's positive turnover margin has helped offset poor overall offensive efficiency, but depending on takeaways is not a sound way to project 30 points.

The likely shape of the game is uneven rather than entirely defensive. Both teams can move the ball between the 20s, and each has the opposing defensive weaknesses to create chances. Finishing drives is the issue. Short field goals, punts after one penalty and a possession lost to a sack matter more at this total than one isolated long completion.

The kicking game also warrants attention. Middle Tennessee punter Ashton Logan has been a useful field-position weapon, an asset when the offense does not regularly win early downs. If the Blue Raiders can keep Delaware backed up, they can force longer drives out of a team that is still sorting out its offensive identity.

Delaware vs Middle Tennessee Line Movement

The spread has traveled through Delaware -3 before returning to approximately -1.5, while the total has eased from around 48.5 to 47.5 at several books. That is evidence of a changing market price, not proof that any particular type of bettor is driving the movement. A game carrying significant uncertainty at the most important position should not be reduced to one explanation for the line.

The difference between Delaware -3 and -1.5 is meaningful for side bettors, but neither side offers much protection against a narrow finish. A lower total reduces the number of possessions in which either team can create separation. That same premise favors an Under only while the posted number leaves room for inefficient offensive sequences.

Best Bet: Under 47.5

The preferred play is Under 47.5, playable at 47.5 or higher. Delaware's quarterback uncertainty is real, and Middle Tennessee's inconsistency against capable defenses limits confidence in a scoring eruption. The offenses could each produce several promising drives without accumulating enough touchdowns to beat this number.

There are two clear risks. Delaware could announce a healthy Minicucci and restore a more dynamic playbook, while either defense could surrender points through turnovers or broken coverages. Those developments would change the expected scoring distribution. A number falling to 46.5 or lower would also remove much of the cushion that makes the current Under worth considering.

Middle Tennessee has the home-field path to a narrow win, but choosing the total avoids requiring one unsteady offense to be the more reliable of the two for all four quarters.

Prediction: Middle Tennessee 23, Delaware 20
