Use Code WWWC Pittsburgh Panthers (10-18) vs. California Golden Bears (20-8)
The Pittsburgh Panthers head to Haas Pavilion in Berkeley, CA, on Saturday afternoon to face off against the California Golden Bears in the ACC showdown, so we have prepared the Pittsburgh vs. California prediction to get you covered.
The Panthers take on the Golden Bears for the first time this season. In 2024-25, California joined the Atlantic Coast Conference, and the Golden Bears suffered an 86-74 defeat at Pittsburgh, playing as 13-point road underdogs.
Let’s take a closer look at this Pitt vs. Cal prediction, one of our NCAAB picks for Saturday’s card. The tip-off is set at 4:00 PM ET, and the Golden Bears are 7.5-point home favorites with a total of 140.5 points.
Pittsburgh looks for a rare conference win
The Pittsburgh Panthers (10-18; 12-16 ATS; 17-11 O/U) have only won one of their previous seven games overall. After stopping their five-game slide with a 73-68 victory to Notre Dame, the Panthers suffered a 75-67 defeat at Stanford this past Wednesday. Now, the Panthers are 3-12 in conference play.

Pittsburgh shot 49.0% from the field (9-for-23 from deep) last Wednesday. However, the Panthers missed five of their 15 attempts from the foul line and committed four more turnovers than Stanford. Senior forward Cameron Corhen led the way for Pittsburgh with 22 points, eight rebounds, and four assists.
Corhen tallies 12.8 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. Senior guard Barry Dunning posts 11.8 points and 5.5 rebounds per contest, and freshman forward Roman Siulepa adds 10.5 points and 5.3 boards a night. Sophomore guard Brandin Cummings (12.5 PPG, 2.1 APG) is done for the season with an ankle injury.
Pittsburgh is No. 123 in the NCAA NET Rankings. The Panthers score 112.2 points per 100 possessions (120th in the country) and allow 106.8 points in return (118th).
California eyes its fourth straight W
The California Golden Bears (20-8; 15-12 ATS; 13-14 O/U) have won five of their previous seven games overall and are unbeaten in three consecutive outings. During their winning streak, the Golden Bears have outlasted Boston College 86-75, Stanford 72-66, and SMU 73-69 to improve to 8-7 in conference play.
Last Wednesday, Cal beat SMU as a 4.5-point home underdog. The Golden Bears made just 40.0% of their field goals (9-for-32 from deep), but they committed just eight turnovers and took full advantage of SMU’s 15 missed free throws. Sophomore guard Justin Pippen led the way for Cal with 24 points, five assists, and four rebounds.
Pippen averages 15.0 points, 4.4 assists, and 4.2 rebounds on the season. Junior guard Dai Dai Ames posts 16.6 points and 2.3 assists per game, while senior forward John Camden adds 14.4 points and 4.8 rebounds a night.
California is No. 57 in the NCAA NET Rankings. The Golden Bears score 115.7 points per 100 possessions (79th in the nation) and surrender 102.5 points in return (52nd).
Pittsburgh vs. California Pick
Spread Pick for Pittsburgh vs. California
- California -7.5 (4 units)
I’m not going to overthink this game. The Panthers have struggled a lot lately. Brandin Cummings’ absence is a huge blow for Pittsburgh, and the Panthers use just six players in their rotation. They are dead last in conference play in opposing 2-point percentage (58.9%) and 17th in 3-point percentage (31.2%).
On the other side, the Golden Bears are third in conference play in both 3-point percentage (35.9%) and opposing 3-point percentage (30.7%). They will try everything they can to speed things up against the undermanned Panthers, and I expect the Golden Bears to beat the number.
Over/Under Pick for Pittsburgh vs. California
- Under 140.5 (4 units)
Pittsburgh has surpassed a 70-point mark just once in its last seven games overall. As I noted, the Panthers lack depth. They play at a slow pace, tallying just 64.1 possessions per 40 minutes in conference play (17th in the ACC).
The Golden Bears are seventh in the ACC in pace (68.3 possessions per 40 minutes). They will look to speed things up, but I would still take the under on the total. I don’t trust the Panthers to score enough to push the total over the line.
