The college basketball betting action is heating up, with the conference tournaments just around the corner, and in this preview, we’re breaking down the Big East Conference showdown from Cintas Center in Cincinnati, OH, to get you the Georgetown vs. Xavier prediction.
The Hoyas take on the Musketeers for the second time this season. Back in December, Xavier outlasted Georgetown 80-77 as a 4.5-point road underdog, and the game went over the 149.5-point line. The Musketeers have only lost one of their last eight games against the Hoyas.

Georgetown is on a five-game slide
The Georgetown Hoyas (13-15; 11-17 ATS; 15-13 O/U) started February with a 76-68 home victory over Creighton, extending their winning streak to four games. Since then, the Hoyas have dropped five straight contests against Villanova 80-73, UConn 79-75, Butler 93-89, Seton Hall 51-47, and Marquette 76-60.

Last Tuesday, the Hoyas were 2.5-point home favorites, but Marquette held Georgetown to 37.7% shooting from the field (4-for-25 from deep). The Hoyas committed six more turnovers than the Golden Eagles (15-9) while posting 17 offensive rebounds. Senior center Vince Iwuchukwu led the way for Georgetown with 19 points and seven rebounds.
Iwuchukwu posts 11.6 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. Junior guard KJ Lewis is the team’s leading scorer with 14.9 points per game, while fellow junior guard Malik Mack averages 13.7 points and 4.2 assists.
Georgetown is 5-12 in conference play and No. 99 in the NCAA NET Rankings. The Hoyas score 114.3 points per 100 possessions (94th in the nation) and allow 104.9 points in return (92nd).
Xavier hopes to snap its three-game skid
The Xavier Musketeers (13-15; 15-13 ATS; 21-7 O/U) have only won one of their previous six games overall and are winless in three straight outings. During that three-game stretch, the Musketeers have suffered defeats against Villanova 92-89 in overtime, Butler 80-75, and Providence 94-84.
Last Wednesday, the Musketeers failed to cover a 5.5-point spread at Providence. They shot 50.0% from the field while posting a 6/5 assist-to-turnover ratio. Xavier hit just five of its 22 shots from beyond the arc, and senior guard Roddie Anderson led the charge with 27 points and six rebounds.
Anderson (10.8 PPG, 3.3 RPG) is one of five Musketeers with points per game in double figures. Senior forward Tre Carroll leads the way with 18.5 points and 5.9 rebounds a night, while sophomore forward Jovan Milicevic tallies 12.1 points and 4.1 rebounds per game.
Xavier is 5-12 in conference play, too, and the Musketeers are No. 98 in the NCAA NET Rankings. They score 115.5 points per 100 possessions (82nd in the nation) while yielding 107.3 points in return (133rd).
Georgetown vs. Xavier Pick
Spread Pick for Georgetown vs. Xavier
- Xavier -4.5 (5 units)
The Musketeers make 36.2% of their shots from deep (53rd in the nation), whereas the Hoyas hit just 31.7% of their 3-pointers (294th). Both teams have struggled to defend this season, so I have to look at the Musketeers in this game. Xavier leans on its offense while playing at a fast pace, and the Musketeers have gone 5-1 ATS in their last six outings at home.
In their first meeting of the season, the Musketeers outrebounded the Hoyas 45-36. Xavier held Georgetown to 40.3% shooting from the field (6-for-17 from deep) while making 46.3% of its field goals (7-for-22 from deep). The Hoyas missed 18 of their 43 shots from the foul line, which is hideous.
Tre Carroll tortured Georgetown for 22 points, eight rebounds, and four assists in December. On the other side, Malik Mack had 21 points and three assists.
Over/Under Pick for Georgetown vs. Xavier
- Over 155.5 (5 units)
As I noted, the Musketeers heavily rely on their offense, especially on their 3-point shooting. Xavier loves to push the ball in transition, and the Musketeers rank 39th in the country in pace (70.3 possessions per 40 minutes). They take good care of the ball (19th in turnover percentage, 13.9%), so I highly doubt the Hoyas’ chances of slowing the Musketeers down.
Georgetown tallies 66.4 possessions per 40 minutes (240th). The Hoyas love to attack the paint and get to the free-throw line as much as possible. They will score enough to push the total over the line.
